The Drive

We're now out in a paddock to teach our dog how to move stock away or bring them past us. In the drive we're bringing together all our skills so far, our side commands, tail end balance and off balance work are all essential to have covered off before beginning these drive exercises. You'll learn how to develop a dog that can confidently drive stock away from you, giving you greater control, flexibility and effectiveness in practical stock handling situations. By the end of this session, you'll be able to: ✅ Understand the difference between driving stock and droving stock. ✅ Teach your dog to move stock away from you while maintaining control. ✅ Apply balance principles during drive work. ✅ Use fence-line exercises to introduce drive training successfully. ✅ Transition your dog between drawing stock to you and driving stock away. ✅ Recognise and correct common drive-training mistakes. ✅ Progress toward more advanced stock handling situations with confidence.
